Area Seniors, Childcare Workers, Students and community members visit Rep. Schilling and demand he stand with the 99%
Moline, IL – On the eve of an anticipated final vote Thursday (May 10) on a Republican plan they have dubbed “The Millionaires’ Dream Budget,” angry constituents of Rep. Bobby Schilling (R-IL) today gathered at his Moline office to call on him to vote no on $4.6 trillion in new tax giveaways to Wall Street, CEOs and the richest 1% of Americans that require cuts to essential services that impact the 99%.
The constituents—among them seniors, students, veterans, and childcare workers called on Rep. Schilling to vote against the final version of the U.S. House Republican budget, which would give new tax cuts averaging $150,000 to anyone earning over $1 million and pay for these and other tax breaks through cuts to healthcare, veterans’ benefits, jobs assistance, student loans and school lunches.
“I am absolutely sickened and distressed by the idea that the elderly could lose their home care funding due to the passage of the Republican budget bill,” says home care provider and East Moline resident Dorraine Young. “Where is Schilling on this? If he’s not with us then he is dead wrong on the facts. The work I do saves the state money in the long run. My job is more cost effective than putting ailing seniors in a nursing home. If the 99% paid their fair share we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
